LOVE
What can we do with our love? Where can we direct it?
Towards things or objects of beauty that surround us?
And some even hoard to satisfy that longing,
As if having some thing to love fulfils love’s destiny.
Better still, some think, is to have some one to love,
To bestow deeds of service trying to show our heart’s yearning,
Which is really to be loved back.
Though sadly this is not always so.
Perfect love is to look to the Creator,
Only He can produce this faultless expression of true love,
Shown as He offered His own life in order to save ours’.
So the best place to direct our love is to God.
He gives back to us a thousand-fold unconditionally,
And can show us love’s beauty and power,
Not towards worthless objects or ungrateful beings,
But to the Lord of our lives.
Only then can we feel the real love in our own hearts.
Our yearnings are then fully satisfied.
No more searching, reaching, or holding onto things or persons.
Instead, content in God’s love.
